Robotic-Assisted Surgery Overview For Kidney Conditions, Prostatectomy and Bladder Cancer

‍Florida Urology Partners was among the first urology groups to perform a robotic prostatectomy, in the Tampa Bay area with the da Vinci Surgical System. Robotic assisted surgery has many advantages over traditional open surgery. The biggest advantage is that robotic assisted surgery is minimally invasive surgery.

The DaVinci Surgery System advantages to the patient:

• Reduced loss of blood
• Reduced risk of infection
• Less scarring
• Shorter hospital stay
• Shorter recovery time

The da Vinci Surgical System allows for very precise maneuvers through high degrees of freedom with its four robotic arms. This means pinpoint movements and high dexterity. Five or six small incisions are used to place the robotic instruments in the abdomen. The surgeon sits at a nearby console and controls the robot system to perform the delicate surgery.
