Tampa Magazine Names Ten Florida Urology Partners' Physicians as “Top Docs”

(Tampa, FL) Florida Urology Partners, a nationally recognized consortium of nearly thirty expertly trained and highly skilled Physicians is elated to announce that ten of its distinguished doctors have been recognized as a "Top Doc" by Tampa Magazine in both urology and radiation oncology. This prestigious honor recognizes the groups’ dedication to excellence across its several care service lines, a steadfast commitment to furthering the advancement of treatment techniques and their contribution to leading medical research in the field of urology.

The following Florida Urology Partners’ Physicians have been named a 2023 “Top Doc” by Tampa Magazine:

Dr. Alonso Alvarez, a board-certified Urologist, received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Alvarez completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive surgery for kidney stones, urologic cancers, and enlarged prostate, as well as treatment for female voiding dysfunction. Alvarez is trained in the use of the da Vinci Surgical System, Interstim sacral nerve modulation, and he performs no-scalpel vasectomies.

Dr. Alexander Boyle graduated top of his class at the University of South Florida and was admitted into the Alpha Omega Medical Honor Society. Boyle completed a general surgery internship and urologic surgery residency at the University of South Florida. Dr. Boyle received training in a full range of urological conditions at one of the nation’s best hospitals for urology, Tampa General Hospital. Boyle is highly trained in advanced robotics, urologic prosthetics and neuromodulation, urogenital reconstruction, and the latest technologies for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Additionally, Dr. Boyle was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his compassionate, collaborative, and scientifically excellent care and received the Tampa Magazine 2022 “Top Doc” Award.

Dr. Raviender Bukkapatnam earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Admitted to Alpha Omega Alpha, the prestigious medical honor society, Bukkapatnam performed his urologic training in Tampa and later earned his fellowship in the field of Female Urology, Reconstruction and Voiding Dysfunction at UCLA. Dr. Bukkapatnam is one of the few physicians in Florida that is fellowship trained in this complex field. He specializes in voiding dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, and female sexual dysfunction. Bukkapatnam has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles and chapters in prestigious urological journals and publications, as well as presenting his clinical research at regional, national, and international conferences. Dr. Bukkapatnam serves as a member of the Board of Directors at Tampa General Hospital and is the President of Florida Urology Partners. He was awarded “Best Doctor” 4 years in a row by Tampa Metro Magazine as well as “Top Doc” in 2022 by Tampa Magazine.

Dr. Alexander Engelman was awarded “Top Doc” in Radiation Oncology. Dr. Engelman is board certified in Radiation Oncology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology. He received his medical training at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Engelman completed his residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Maryland Proton Treatment Center, with additional time at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Dr. Engelman has experience with external beam radiotherapy, LDR and HDR brachytherapy, partial breast irradiation, Gamma Knife and CyberKnife radiosurgery, and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Dr. Engelman is one of few radiation oncologists to receive dedicated training in proton therapy in Tampa Bay.

Dr. David Hochberg is a board-certified diplomat of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is Chief of Urology at Tampa’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and is a clinical assistant professor of Urogynecology at the University of South Florida School of Medicine for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and female incontinence. He has served as a national proctor for the training of robotic surgeons using the DaVinci Surgical System for the treatment of prostate cancer.Dr. Hochberg’s areas of specialty include laparoscopic urologic surgery, minimally invasive laser treatment for enlarged prostate medical and surgical treatment of urinary stones, vasectomy, and vasectomy-reversal.

Dr. Nicholas Laryngakis received his medical school degree from the University of Florida. He then completed his urology residency training at the University of Pennsylvania which is amongst the most comprehensive and elite urology training programs in the nation. Dr. Laryngakis performs minimally invasive and da Vinci Surgical System robotic procedures and treats urologic issues with smaller incisions, less blood loss, minimal tissue or nerve damage for a faster recovery. He specializes in the treatment of genitourinary cancer (kidney, ureteral, bladder, prostate, testicular), BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia/bladder outlet obstruction), kidney stones, overactive bladder, male and female urinary incontinence, low testosterone, and erectile dysfunction, amongst many other conditions.

Dr. Drew Palmer earned his medical degree at the University of Florida for where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and graduated cum laude with Research Honors. He completed his internship and Urology residency in New England at the Lahey Clinic. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in Robotic Surgery and Laparoscopy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is one of the few urologists in Tampa who is fellowship trained in robotic surgery. Dr. Palmer’s areas of specialty include robotic and minimally invasive urologic surgery for prostate cancer, kidney cancer, enlarged prostate (BPH), and blockages of the ureter (ureteral strictures and UPJ obstruction).

Dr. Osvaldo Padron is a fellow of the American College Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology. He received his medical degree from University of Miami and completed his urology residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial hospital where he served as chief resident his final year. In addition to being on faculty at the University of South Florida, Dr. Padron has written several textbook chapters on the topic of male infertility and has contributed numerous peer review articles to the surgical literature in such journals as the Journal of Urology, Fertility and Sterility, and the Journal of Andrology frequently quoted in the press.

Dr. Malcom Root is Board Certified by the American Board of Urology and received his medical degree at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Dr. Root specializes in kidney stone disease, minimally invasive surgery and techniques surrounding the prostate and kidneys as well as BPH and other general urological conditions. 

Dr. Timothy Weber is a board – certified diplomat of the American Board of Urology. He is highly trained in the areas of robotic-assisted and laparoscopic surgery for diseases of the prostate, kidney and female pelvic organ prolapse. Additionally, Dr. Weber has expertise in the medical and surgical management of male erectile dysfunction, stone disease and disorders of voiding including BPH and urinary incontinence. Dr. Weber is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and pursued his medical degree at the University of South Florida. He later completed his surgical internship and urologic surgical training at Moffitt Cancer Center and Tampa General Hospital.
